Move your data off ageing media
Magnetic tape degrades with age, and the drives that read the older formats are getting harder to find. If your data is still on legacy media, it is worth moving while the hardware to read it still runs.
United DataWyse keeps working drives for the older formats. We read your tapes, verify what is on them, and copy the data to modern media or deliver it as files.
Formats we handle
3480, LTO, 9-track and VHS, plus most cartridge and reel formats in between. If you are not sure what you have, send us a photo of the label and we will identify it.
Tapes from anywhere
Most of the media we read comes from Western Canada, because that is where our clients are. The drives do not care. Ship tapes to us from any country and we transcribe them here in Calgary.
How a transcription job works

Inventory
Ship or courier us your tapes, from a single box to a full library. We log every item and confirm the manifest with you before anything is read.

Read and verify
Each tape is read on maintained period hardware. We check what we recover against what the label claims, and we tell you about any tape that reads badly.

Deliver, then store or destroy
You get modern copies by download, FTP or courier. Originals go back to you, into our secure storage, or through supervised destruction.
